House
sparrows used to be a very common pest, particularly in warehouses and food factories. They
would frequently develop large flocks and contaminate food products with their droppings, but
not anymore. These little birds are reportedly suffering a population
decline in several parts of the UK at the moment. Their numbers are decreasing annually, which
is a shame. Consequently, Natural England (previously DEFRA) has given strict instructions to us
all about leaving them alone. So, that’s what we’ll be doing.
However, if you have a real problem with House sparrows, we may still be able
to help you. We will need to look at the problem first and then we’ll need to speak to Natural
England. They might say “No!” of course, but there’s no harm asking.
